BIO-START is Green Yelwa’s, naturally-occurring, soil-beneficial, microbial consortium. This powerful microbial consortium rejuvenates and repairs damaged soil; exhibits inherent pesticidal activities ; super-enhances plant beneficial microbial activities of compost, bird (poultry) droppings, cow dung etc; strengthens soil microbiology thus increasing productivity and crop resilience. Apart from providing nutrient for the crop root system, our consortium also exhibits some degree of biologic pesticidal activities. Green YELWA Bio-Start Microbial Specifications.
A. 110 propagules per gram of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, comprising of 7 soil beneficial species of the Glomus genus.
B. Microbial consortium, total of 7.6 x 108 CFU per gram. Microbial consortium breakdown :
C. Improved inoculant with a set of accelerators consisting of selected sugars, humic acid, kelp, amino acids and yeast extract. Free of disease-causing pathogens.
Green Yelwa Bio-Start comes in 2 separate parts;
To use, the 250g of microbial consortium powder, is mixed with 1 liter of humate-rich liquid activator to yield 1 litre of active liquid inoculant mixture.
The resulting active liquid inoculant mixture is diluted 100 times in water to yield the ready to use product. It is this ready to use product that is applied to the soil using a knapsack sprayer or any other sprayer available. (See other application methods below). This can also be fed into the automatic irrigation line if available.
Any unused diluted product can be stored in a cool dark place for use in future.
Recommended dose for most crops is 3 litres of active inoculant per hectare. i.e 3 x 250gm of microbial consortium powder, plus 3 x 1L bottle of humate-rich liquid activator.
Shelf life is 24 months.

APPLICATION METHODS:
1.IMPREGNATION
To increase germination rate, reduce germination time etc you may soak seeds, tubers or stems. Soak in a container of diluted Bio-Start for a period of time as indicated on the Green Yelwa timeline (Table below). Typically, most seeds are soaked for 24 hours, but it is also okay to soak for 1 to 6 hours. Most stems and tubers are soaked for 1 hour.
2.PLANTING (Transplantation)
If you are transplanting from a nursery, soak the roots of the plant in a container of diluted Bio-Start prior to transplanting.
3. SOIL INFUSION/SOIL REJUVENATION/SOIL STABILISATION
Our minimum standard is 3 liters of diluted product for 1 hectare. You can do more if you choose. * May be tank mixed with fertilizers, biostimulants and microbial foods (sugars, humic acids, kelp)
* It is advisable not to co-apply product with pesticides (fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, nematicides, fumigants) as they can compromise integrity of or kill the beneficial organisms herein contained.
* If required tank mix the product with pesticide and apply immediately (within 12 hours).
* When applied in rotation with pesticides its advisable to allow 5 – 7 days between application of pesticide and this product.
* Never apply product mixture just prior to a pesticide application
* Never tank mix with pesticides that contain imazilil, propiconazole, tebuconazole and triflumizole.
* Do not mix product and store, apply all tank mixes within 12 hours of preparation.
* Agitate tank while adding product and during entire application process
* Always perform jar test when mixing product with other inputs to test for physical compatibility
* To facilitate mixing process you may create slurry (0.5 kg in 8 liters of water) and add slurry to tank while agitating
* Optimal results achieved if product is applied early morning, evening or on an overcast day.
